To attract high-caliber students, college officials sought to create a professional
atmosphere says John Beidler, Director of Research and Institutional Facilities.
To create that atmosphere, Beidler and his building committee worked closely with
John Chipley of Tallahassee's Capital Business Interiors to establish furniture
standards as the school was being built and faculty and staff were being hired.
The Kimball Office Solution
In the new college headquarters, some 200 students now gather in eight learning
communities, each with its own kitchen, locker room, study area, and lounge.
The students and employees also make use of wireless internet access throughout
the facility, and of the specially-designed video conferencing facilities. Here,
modified Conferencing Solutions tables ensure that all seated around them can be
seen by the video cameras. The tables also accommodate participants' laptops, microphones
and controls.
In the 700 employee spaces, Definition casegoods, files and bookcases in Autumn
Cherry provide "visual continuity . . . from the dean's office to the work stations,"
says Beidler. Stature seating completes the work areas and conference rooms.
"The whole process [of obtaining furniture] worked out very well," says Beidler.
"We received good advice, good design and good service." As for the outcome, Beidler
says, "It's a cut above anything else on campus."
