"We were looking for a uniform system to use throughout the building," explains
Mark Warren, Vice President of Plant Operations. "Our old building was filled with
no less than five or six different systems, none of which worked well together.
We also wanted to provide professional and functional workspaces for five levels
of employee, clerical through executive, without the appearance of a huge class
distinction."
The Kimball Office Solution
Kimball Office and dealer Working Spaces helped IIC achieve their open plan objectives
with Xsite. The system's aesthetic versatility inspired the project's designer Eileen
Hamburg, President of Quintin Design Resources, to create visually impactful "feature
walls" using fabric tiles in vibrant greens, blues, oranges, and wood tiles and
trim in caramel maple.
For the private office areas, IIC chose a mixed palette of products that included
Definition and Prevail casegoods, and Footprint worksurfaces, Contemporary tables,
and storage components. Kimball Office's ability to match finishes between systems,
tables and casegoods allowed a cohesive look throughout the facility.
Warren says IIC is "very pleased" with the new corporate environment. "It is our
opinion that employee morale and thus productivity have been improved as a result,
and we think that retention will be enhanced." Warren also credits the Kimball Office-furnished
workspaces with helping IIC attract a "higher caliber of employee."
