Pura™: A Brilliant Wood Finish with Virtually No VOCs
|
Kimball Office is well known as an industry leader in wood office furniture with rich, beautiful finishes. Now the company is advancing this reputation with Pura, a proprietary, multi-step ultra-violet (UV) process that results in an exceptionally clear finish while meeting today’s indoor air quality standards.
“As part of our Design for the Environment initiatives, we’ve been researching and developing UV finish technology that matches our stringent requirements for environmental safety, clarity and durability,” explains Douglas Prickett, Director of Sustainable Design, Kimball Office. Pura is a water-based finish that allows us to meet indoor air quality standards as set forth by LEED and BIFMA, has virtually no VOCs, and consumes less energy, while preserving the depth, character and beauty of wood.”
Pura is notably clear, ensuring the integrity of the wood grain. It has a 50-degree sheen designed to match customers’ previously purchased Kimball Office casegoods.
Pura is also very durable, but when necessary, surprisingly repairable. Additionally, because UV lamps are used during the curing process, Pura is much more energy efficient than conventional finishing and dries faster, so there’s less risk of immediate damage during handling.
Kimball Office expects to offer Pura across its open plan solutions in August 2008 and a full range of private office, conferencing, seating and storage solutions in 2009.
