Pura is a proprietary, water-based ultraviolet (UV) wood finish that has virtually no volatile
organic compounds (VOCs) and meets or exceeds all indoor air quality standards. It is
exceptionally clear and durable and allows the beauty of our wood to shine through. It
is also very durable, but when necessary, repairable. Additionally, because UV lamps
are used during the curing process, Pura is more energy efficient than conventional
finishing and dries faster, so there's less risk of immediate damage during handling.
The depth, clarity, and beauty that Pura delivers matches the high expectations customers have of Kimball Office finishes.
Becoming Pura
- Starting at the end of August 2008, all systems wood products will be shipped with the new Pura finish. This includes Cetra, Xsite, and Footprint components.
- Pricing for Cetra, Xsite, and Footprint remains the same - there is no upcharge for the Pura finish.
- At this time, our seating products will not receive the Pura finish as the majority of our lines are already indoor air quality certified.

Pura Performance
- Pura is a multi-step proprietary finish process, in which the protective coating is cured by ultraviolet light. Pura cures quickly to a completely inert finish.
- Pura achieves Indoor Air Quality standards set by LEED® and BIFMA Furniture Emission Standards (FES).
- Pura has a 50° semi-open pore sheen to match the existing systems finish.
- Pura is five times more scratch-resistant than our conventional finish.
- The Pura wood finishing process is more efficient and has a reduced environmental impact.
- Resistance to pen imprint is equal between Pura and our conventional finish.
Construction Enhancements
- To enable the UV finish process, we evaluated the core materials and construction techniques for Footprint components.
- For all Footprint wood, laminate and painted storage and worksurfaces, we've added:
- Metal stretchers in pedestal & undersurface lateral file tops & bottoms
- Additional edge banding
- Low-emitting core materials
- Mini-fix and dowel construction
- Reduced height box drawer in pedestals
- There will be no significant visual differences when the new Footprint changes are installed.
